How to make (or not make) a display like Di

di-sketch:

YOU WANNA BUY THE F- OUTTA THIS STUFF. Specially those table clamps. Those aluminium tubes, But you can like, use acrylic plumbing tubes or circular ones it doesn’t matter.

And some light weight backing material. Eventually you’re gonna have to cut this in two and fold it together using strong tape and just unfold it at cons for easy travel.

(1) FIRST CLAMP YOUR CLAMPS ON THE TABLE CUS THAT’S WHERE THEY GO. Space them far enough apart to fit your board. THEN FIT THOSE DUMB ASS PIPES OVER THE ENDS OF THE CLAMP.

(2) USE THE GODDAMN TAPE TO TAPE THE GODDAMN BOARD ONTO THOSE STUPID PIPES STUCK TO THOSE CLAMP THINGIES.

(3) STICK SHIT ONTO IT.

YOU CAN PUT SOME PRETTY ASS BACKING PAPER OR SUM SHIT ONTO IT MAKE IT LOOK REAL NICE.

Guide: Tips for preparing for your first convention

by Davy Shirley

Your first convention can be a daunting task, and we all make silly mistakes whether we’re new to the scene or battle scarred veterans.

The point is that as a community we must learn from each other and always experiment in order to improve our own knowledge and abilities. I’d like to begin this guide by mentioning that this all comes from my experience at UK conventions, these are things that work for me and may not always work for everyone else. But, some of these ideas will be universal, please don’t feel that you need to stick to them 100%, deviate from them and find what works best for you.

Convention Exhibitors, please read this…

So, you’re an artist, writer, or general creative type who frequents comic and animé conventions?

If you have at some point had a table or booth at an event, in the artist alley or comic village (or whatever your convention of choice calls it)… I’d love to hear from you.

I’m currently taking submissions for a new blog “Conventional Inspiration”. It’s a chance to capture the cool, unique, and the utterly crazy table/booth set ups that exist at these events. Not only is the blog intended to showcase these designs, but also to act as inspiration and perhaps guidance for newcomers.

If you’d like to submit a picture set, check out the examples that are currently posted, submit a post about your own convention experiences and advice for newcomers you are very welcome to do so.

And of course, pass these details on to any creators that you think may be interested in joining in.

You can either submit via the blog page or email me at: t_iii@angelk.at and include “con-spiration” in the email title.

What’s this then?

A compilation of inspiration for artists new and old to the convention scene. You’ll find examples of convention table layouts, banner designs and more intended to inspire and educate.

There are some fantastic displays and tables at events, and they’re a work of art in their own right. Truly the first thing that an attendee will notice and they are part of what sets each of our tables apart.

The hope is that this blog will serve as inspiration for artists who are either old hands at cons or new to the convention scene. We’ll include images, interviews and articles on what works and what doesn’t. Always with the caveat of “find your own style, what worked for others may not work for you and vis versa.”

Also, feel free to show off some of your own con tables and displays etc. or even give your thoughts on the topic of being an exhibitor/small press creator at events, by submitting them here: http://con-spiration.tumblr.com/submit

Submissions can include (but are not limited to):

  • Photos or sketches of convention tables.
  • Convention banners and display materials.
  • Articles on the topic of being a creator at an event.
  • Images of unusual merch ideas.
  • Creator interviews.

Submissions that include the following won’t be accepted:

  • Profanity, let’s try to keep it civil and family friendly if possible.
  • No cosplay - whilst I love cosplay it’s a little off topic.
  • Anything of an explicit nature.

A note to submitters: If the images are of a specific creator (such as yourself), please feel free to include a link in your post to your own website.
